Coast to Coast Overflow
 

If you had an opportunity to go with a coast to coast overflow in a large tank, how shallow (top to bottom) would you go and why? I'd like as shallow as possible to allow for good vortech placement on the back wall but I'm interested in everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance.

It only needs to be large enough to comfortably assemble your bulkheads and fittings. Mine uses 1" Bean Animal style drains and is 5" x 5" OD. Coast to coast is well worth it IMO as is the Bean Animal.

Thanks very much. I'm planning on an external coast to coast overflow and the tank will be an inwall tank within a fish room. There shouldn't be a need for a Bean Animal overflow from what I can see in this case, correct?

It may reduce the amount of air entering the sump, causing salt splash

I am a huge fan of both C2C and Bean animal systems. So much so we won't have a tank in the house that is any other configuration.

I have internal C2C (therefore small space utilized)with external Bean, main DT is inwall with fish room behind.

Don't understant the comment that because it is inwall Bean not needed?

The major advantage of a Bean system is "silent and flood-proof" I would want those features regardless of location.

My 8' - 300 gal is going to have a coast to coast, split in half ( 4' each side ) with 2 bean animal OF. I think I will be going 6"T x 4"D.
