powder blue and regal tang thoughts

i have purchased another tank (34g RSM) in it came a 3" regal tang who obviously cant stay in that tank. i also have a 175g that would be perfect for him except it has a 5-6" powder blue tang in it (last moved around Xmas). so it comes down to will they get along or not. what are your thoughts / experiences?

Nope, had 1 regal for about a yr, then added the PB & the 2nd regal several months later.

Though some of us have differences of opinion on the tank size requirements for tangs the reefer who held a regal tang in a 34 gallon tank should be reported to the SPCA.

The chances are very high that you will have a fight to death when you introduce both in the same tank because of their size, colouring and species. The stress will weaken them and some of the other fish in the tank as well. You risk an ich outbreak. You do not know the condition of the new tang. I would not take the risk.

If you chose to add the fish do it in a darkened room and leave he lights off for a couple of days. Feed from both ends of the tank.

Thanks for sharing your concern

SPCA doesn't consider fish animals as defined by the laws the operate under. I checked :)

I have several different tangs that were introduced months apart.

I use two methods.

1) Put mirrors up around the outside of the tank. The resident fish will attack it's own image and ignore the new addition.

2) Use an introduction tank. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...6&postcount=21
