Sick cleaner shrimp... anything I can do?
I'd post this in the invertibrates section, but it doesn't look like anyone has posted there since 2008.
At any rate, our one cleaner shrimp has developed these growths on his body. Do you have any idea what it is? What we can do? Sorry I know the pics are not the greatest, but he hides out in the shadows... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...uddy/0880c.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...uddy/0890c.jpg Any help is greatly appreciated. Woh! Never seen anything like that before!

cleaner shrimp
Wont those things come off when it molts?
|
Weird.. It looks like misplaced eggs...
|
Bill, we have our fingers crossed that that is the case! My husband (the tanks are his hobby) has been feeding him a bit more to encourage a molt. Keep your fingers crossed! I've posted these pics on a few different forums trying to see if anyone has seen such a thing before, and on one of them someone thought it might be a parasitic barnicle... which, if it is, doesn't sound good.
dsaundry... I'll mention the dip to my hubby and see what he thinks. Thanks for the replies everyone! Sandra |
Looks like eggs to me but have never seen anything like it before. Hope he pulls through ok.

Just wanted to post an update on our cleaner shrimp. He has in fact finally moulted. And the result is that for now he looks like a brand new man! Fingers crossed that the little bumps stay gone now!
