Where did the EDIT button go? (testing 1 2 3)

The EDIT button seems to have disappeared on my old posts...? I restarted puter, no difference.

I still see EDIT button on this post. Have the settings been changed so we can only edit for a certain amount of time now? At the bottom of my old posts it does say "You may edit your posts".

I think a couple settings did get changed around this week. I think it might have been actually a bug that posts were given infinity as the time period for edits and that got fixed. That said I think we might be able to make it so that titles can be edited whenever still. I'll see what I can find out.

Ive had the same problem for the last 2 days.

I always thought it was weird how you could go back a few years and change old posts. Im not on any other forums that allow that so it sounds like a bug for sure. I've gone back to look for info/posts I recalled from a long time ago and in one case the user had decided to part ways with canreef. Unlike most who jump ship this individual went and replaced ALL their old posts with a decimal.

I prefer it like this. People also can't back out of comments they've made unless done so within a reasonable time.

I agree it is nice to change thread titles. I also don't know of another forum that allows that but I dig.

What is the new time frame? I know with tank journals, people usually keep updating the top post in a thread with the latest info, etc?

Here's the latest answer :)

we've reverted back to allowing one hour for edits on the original title and post. This was done to prevent people from removing all the content from "for sale" posts. We felt that original post and price were an important part of the thread for historic purposes, ie, someone wants to know what item X typically gets posted for.
While we realize some people update their thread with "new pics posted", etc, we thought that was rare enough that those people could just post on the end of their thread to bring it back to the top.
We'll look around and see if we can restrict that to the buy/sell forums only..

Good stuff Brad works for me.

Delphinus 11-14-2010 08:15 PM

Unfortunately it does look like we're out of luck for thread title edits, I can't find any secondary path to editing a thread title.

Ah well I'll start a new build thread someday soon anyways right?
