Can someone help this noob with his skydiving video?

Hey everyone,

I went skydiving last weekend and got pics and video. I would love to get the video online (particularly on to my facebook)... but im a noob and haven't a clue what to do with it. Its broken into parts, and there is also an advertisement 'chapter' in front of it. I hear it has to be converted with a program or something? I also tried using iDVD and iMovie on my mac... but I dont know the first thing about using them. If anyone has any suggestions.... I will be this happy!

Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,

Chris

Did they just give you a DVD or something? If so then you need some kind of video "ripper" (to convert from disk to file). Not sure what's good for Mac's but there's probably lots of options.

Once you have it online, your video editing software shouldn't be too hard to figure out and you can then concatenate them together into one video or whatever. I used Windows Movie Maker on a PC for a few videos and it wasn't too bad to figure out, and Macs are said to be much better for video editing so you should be able to figure things out. :)

I just upload videos to youtube.com and they show up on facebook because they're linked. If you want facebook to host the video then you have to upload it to there. I can't imagine the process is much different from pictures but I haven't tried it.

Neat stuff, where did you jump?

Get a program called handbrake. It rocks and is free.

Thanks Tony. Kinda figured it had something to do with ripping it. I should just do it on my PC... I havent figured my mac out yet (i've only really used it for simple stuff and dont do much editing/media stuff). I might give it a go on my PC if i cant figure this out. I think my only problem with this mac is that un-ripped format the DVD is in.

Brett... I'll give it a try, thanks!

I guess I just really needed to use a converter was all. I've used 'em lots before to put vids on my Ipod. I don't know why it didn't just click. Haha. Handbrake worked well. Thanks!

Tony I forgot to add.... I went for the skydive at Eden North. They were really good... and most of our tandem masters had lots of experience. (Mine had around 16 000 jumps?).
