Impeller seized in MAG 36 pump I bought from fellow CanReefer, NEED A NEW IMPELLER!!
I bought this pump from a fellow CanReefer and the impeller is seized in. Does anyone have a sure fire way to get it un-seized. It is going to be my closed loop pump for the 165. Thought is was a good deal until today when I went to pull out impeller to clean it.

Vegetable oil maybe, and vice grips.
I pretty much have to use needlenose pliers anytime anyhow I want one of those big magnet impellers out, it's not that it's seized up but just that the magnetic forces make it just that much awkward to try to pull them out with just fingers on the impeller blades.. |
Well I got it out & as I suspected I got ripped off on this pump for $120 and I am not happy to say the least.
This is what I found, the protective cover was split. There was rust under it and had separated it from the magnet and the bottom of the shaft was broken. The magnet also is cracked in the same spot as the cover. http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/100_3193.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/100_3194.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/100_3195.jpg |
Had to soak mine in pure vinager. Got the impeller out, but the ceramic shaft stayed seized in the magnet and had to buy a new impeller.

oops a little slow :) If the pump housing itself is not cracked you should be able to just buy a new impeller. Kit comes with magnet, shaft & wheel.

My god slow again  - I got it from Golds I think around $ 25

Wowza!!
Well, a little late in coming back to this conversation but as stated at least you can get replacement impellers for Mag drives. Might be tricky finding someone stocking a Mag36 impeller but they should at least be able to get one for you. Good luck! |
