Elos destroyed my pants...

Has anyone else experienced this? I've now put holes in 3 pairs of jeans because I accidentally dripped a very small amount of elos test kit regent onto my pants! I think its the ultra corrosive phosphate kit solutions that did it but its hard to tell as I usually use several test kits at a time.

Here is the pair that got it the most because I was shaking the solution and the loose cap allowed little drips to splatter everywhere.

Scary! I'd hate to think what would happen if some got into the tank!

Imagine what it does to your skin then?

Testing the Alk using either Salifert or Elos involves a titration where the final reagent is sulphuric acid. (As I understand it)

....oh...and some people pay a lot extra for jeans that look like that!

^^^ no kidding about paying for jeans, that look that way...funny!!!^^^

I think I might conduct another experiment and drip a drop from each regent from all of my test kits on the back leg of those jeans just to see which ones are the most corrosive.

At least all of my jeans are just cheap $20 Nevada's from Sears otherwise I'd be pretty choked.

Yep...I have ruined two pairs of capris and a t-shirt with this stuff.

Okay I've concluded my little experiment for now. I dripped a drop from each regent bottle from all of the elos kits I currently have. Thats Alkalinity, Magnesium, Nitrate, and Phosphate (I test my calcium too but its with a Salifert kit ATM).

This picture is of the jeans with the drops just applied. The jeans were left for over a day to ensure that the corrosive chemicals would have a reasonable about of time to do their damage. I accidentally dripped a few too many drops of Phosphate Regent A because the solution is much more fluid than B... you'll see in the next picture this no doubt caused the hole to be even larger. For all of the other samples the dosage was just one drop.

And here you have it, the jeans just went through the washing machine and this is what resulted. Phosphate Regent A gave me a nice bullet hole in the back of my already fugly work pants.
