Any corals in a predator tank?
 

Has anyone been able to keep any kind of corals in their predator tank? Any Zoas, Polyps, etc?:question::question:

This was mine a while back...Four puffers, few triggers, grouper, ect.

All kind of leathers, mushrooms, gorgonians, ect. Zoas were all eaten and well as most polyps.

im surprised the puffer didnt chomp everything, ive seen hem do it plenty of times,
i think it depends on the type of fish you plan on keeping,normaly i would say no chance with puffers but i guess thats out the window,groupers/snappers/sweetlips/lions wont touch any corals but id be carfull with triggers/puffers and others with sharp teeth

"THE" puffer? :D Both tanks had multiple puffers. The first one 4 (dogface, burrfish, greenspotted, porc) and the bottom one 5 (Manila, porc, valentini, greenspotted, stars and stripes).

Have you owned many? Over the six years I have kept saltwater puffers, I have yet to have one eat anything besides Zoas. Thats about 12 puffers or so. Before that I kept brackish puffers for about 12 years...they are destructive!

A thread came up on RC a long time ago about puffers in reefs and there really wasn't many people with serious problems, just kind of the odd one that liked to nip a coral or two.

im not a puffer guy so not much first hand experience, but i have seen dog face's chomping on shroom's and leathers before for shure, i would have added one to my tank if i knew i had a chance of it not chomping everything

I've kept clown and picasso triggers with softies/zoas without incident... snails on the other hand...

WOW that is a nice puffer tank man ,

I keep a volitan lionfish and snowflake moray with all types of coral. Sometimes my eel smacks into things and breaks them but other than that I dont have any problems with them. The purple tang on the other hand loves to pick at some of my LPS like open brains and acans.

We've got a blue spot puffer in our RSM, and one of the first things he started poking at was my beautiful red open brain coral. So, after we moved that to our 180g we noticed our zoas in the RSM were not doing well. Coincidence? I don't think so. (Those are now moved as well.) But we do have frogspawn and hammer coral, as well as colt coral and a beautiful yellow toadstool in there that he isn't bothering with. So far so good.
