I can tell you from experience, you can probably get the same PAR/intensity out of a properly set up 250W HQI. If I could go back, I would never have bought 400's. Is your tank really deep?

It's 2.5' deep, but my rock only go as high as 60% up to provide my tangs with open water. You think 250W is suffient at 1.75' deep for SPS? Thanks for the insight/advice!

Edit: It's 6.5'x2'x2.5' if that helps.

Edit: It's 6.5'x2'x2.5' if that helps.

with the right pendants 250hqi will be bright enough at 16in deep
when I saw 250w hqi it was way more crisp then my 400w mogul and this was on a 24in deep tank.
