octo skimmer

Plan on setting up a 65 gallon tank with 25 gallon sump in the new year, and was wondering if anyone is useing an "Octopus Skimmer"?

As seen here:http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Protei...duct_info.html

If so, thoughts, comments, reviews?

I have the 150 and bought it from that exact link about 6 months ago. Dont expect to get the skimmer in the photo. Mine looked way different.

As for performance it seems to pull out some nice sludge. Never have to adjust it. Plug and play. The pump needs to be blown into to restart if the power turns off. Thats the only problem I have with it, but its very minor.

Heres the best picture I have of the skimmer....

I've got a recirc Octo and it's working great. Good value, great design, average construction. Mine was quite fragile when I got it, but no problems since.

How do people keep their sumps so clean? Mine does not look like that!

I would bet money that picture is from when the sump was brand new.

one of the causes is high calcium/alk levels.

vinegar is worked the best for me to disolve calcium deposits from the impellers and other submerged parts.
