Explorer question

In a way this is aquarium related, so I hope I can ask it. I was running Internet Explorer on my system, and had nothing but problems downloading pictures. They would come down very slowly, or just hang up and do nothing. I have since installed Mozilla, and found it works much better. If I could I would just delete IE, but I don't know how to achieve that.

Bob, if you're using anything newer than Win95, you can't remove it. You can delete the executable file, but you could also just not use IE.

Yes I am using XP, so I will just not use IE anymore. It is too bad, as I am also getting a few of those new popups in Explorer, and I don't want to spend money to eliminate those. They are Uncle Bill's fault so he should deal with them.

Bob, if you're getting messenger popups, disable the messenger service. You don't really need it at home. And if you delete the Iexplore.exe file, XP will just replace it for you.

you can tweak windows settings and limit messenger with tweakui (free download, check google for it). however IE is part of windows - you cannot remove it. remember the big lawsuit netscape filed against microsoft, saying they had a monopoly on the browser market? it was because IE is built into windows, and is essentially the same engine that allows you to browse and work with files on your own hard drive (windows explorer).

i have a love-hate relationship with microsoft products - i am forced to use them (i play games, and mac and *nix can't touch windows for that). i am amazed by just how devious the thinkers at microsoft are - they developed a replacement for MP3 (WMA), an alternative to winzip (the most popular compression utility out there), and i hate to think what longhorn (the next windows) will bring us.

it's not globalization, it's microsoftization.
