how much flow in general can lps corals handle? in my 55 gallon i currently have 2 koralia 2s running. im thinking of changing one out for a magnum koralia 5 or 6. would this increase my flow too much or actually be better for the tank.

Depends a lot on what type of layout you have with your rock, and where the pumps point. Based on what a K4 puts out, I'd say you'd be fine

I have 4 hydor 2's and a mag 5 providing circulation in a 72 gall

Koralias 4 (x2), 3, 2 plus conservetivly 700 gph from the return, for a total 4550 gph...43.5 times turnover per hour(110g). Leathers, frogspawn, candycane, acans, blastos. Its do able. You just need to be careful with your placement of flow patterns and corals.
