Scuba Dive water temperatures

We are diving at Madrona point next week and are wondering what we can expect for water temperatures? Would a 5 mill semi-dry be warm enough?
Also, can anyone recommend a dive shop in the area for rentals and possibly boat dives?

**Changed the name of the thread, not to be confused with fish tank temperatures!

I've only ever had the pleasure of diving in Thailand and Malaysia, so I can't help you out. Good luck though :)

A warm water fishy, eh Drew? Don't blame you though. I am doing my open water dive tests next week so I can be certified for our Cozumel trip in November!

Most wet suit divers use 7mm bib style with another 7mm long sleeve shorty

I believe the water is between 47 to 53 right now at depth.

I think you will freeze your but off. :)

Yes - most ppl out here use a thick wetsuit, or those that dive often dive dry. I use a 6mm neoprene drysuit with fleece and wool socks underneath.

Thanks for the info. We used 7 mill wetsuits in Waterton Lake last weekend and the water temp was around 54. It was cold but not unbearably so. Can't wait to get to the Caribbean!

I dove Drumbeg bay on Gabriola (across from Naniamo) on Sunday with a temp of 57*F. at 32'. You can expect a temp drop of 5*F (or so) after that when you dive through the thermocline. I use a tri lam drysuit with a sweater and wool cycling tights in the summer and polar fleece overalls in the winter.
The surface temp is pretty warm right now as well. I snorkelled all week with a thin waterski shorty wetsuit and hood.
