Haha, yeah they can do that sometimes. My old LMB looked like he swallowed a marble:

Easily one of the biggest personalities of all the fish I've taken care of. If I cleaned the glass with a cloth on the outside, he'd chase the cloth. He'd come out of nowhere to tell the invading cloth what he thought of it.

Man I miss him, he was an awesome fish. He lived for just over 4 years, I'm not sure what their natural lifespan is.

Mine at work is massive too. I love how he swims a little and then stops for a while all huffing and puffing.

Wondering do they really eat hair algea?

Chowder 03-12-2008 02:30 AM

No they eat filamentous (spelling?) algae.

mark 03-12-2008 02:51 AM

Though hair algae was considered a filamentous algae?

Delphinus 03-12-2008 03:06 AM

He means film algae - I'm not sure what the real term is, alas it is not "filamentous" though because yeah that means filament/strand/hair algae. And alas they don't touch hair algae, too bad. But they do go after the slime/film on the glass with gusto.

Jonathan had one that was the size of a small dog! Sure would be nice to see a pic of that one.
