Anyone seen one of these?
I dont know much about this anemone but I figured I would post some pics.
I dont want to put it in my reef yet till I find out a little info. I dont want my cowfish getting into trouble e somtimes likes to explore a little to much. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...c/IMG_0064.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...c/IMG_0063.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...c/IMG_0062.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...c/IMG_0061.jpg |
Is that a hellfire? Looks a little like Actinodendron plumosum to me.
Don't know much about them except that you don't want to touch them. They seem to be photosynthetic but still require feeding. I found one page that claims a max size of 12" and that there are reports of these anemones killing fish, so ... I don't know what to suggest re. the cowfish. How big is the cowfish (he's kinda big isn't he, didn't I see a picture recently? Don't remember). So he might be OK, but ... I don't know how to suggest making that call. Some links http://nhm.ku.edu/inverts/adorian/actinodendronidae.htm http://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=192627 http://www.edge-of-reef.com/anemoni/...plumosumen.htm |
Actinodendron plumosum extends at night and some of the other hellfire anemones emerge during the day.
either way you should wear gloves or youl get a nasty sting. books say no clownfish will associate with them but some shrimp will. and as far as the cowfish, dont be stupid do you not remember what happens to his tail when he dips it in a regular anemone |
looks pretty cool.

Are these also called basket starfishes?

You picked that up from Elite, right? I seem to remember him having one of those.
