overflow ???

Hi, I'm about to order my new tank a 90G. I need to know how I should built my overflow.. Wich one of these is the best or maybe another suggestion... My bulkhead would be 1 1/2" but I need to decide how big I want my overflow so please give me some advice. I have to give my choice tomorrow morning...

Where I'm ordering it, the guy had suggested me 16", I think at 16" I'm loosing too much space ????

Thanks

Personally I would build a box rather than cut across the corner. Mine is 6x6 inches. If I "had" to cut across the corner, I would make it as small as possible. Maybe someone that has it done that way can suggest why not to do that.

I agree with Brad, but if you want the same area, wouldn't an 8.5" diagonal work ?

The cross piece will limit the flow to the box if it's too small. I would got for the 12" that would be the same area as the 6"x6" and should leave you lots of room for a Stockman or Durso stand pipe. What kind of turn over are you thinking of? What return pump would you be using?

I have seen tanks with this style, they look sweet and clean lines.

my return pump should be a mag12

If I do a 6x6 box, can I fit a durso stand pipe in it ????

Aquattro 10-16-2002 02:23 PM

Yes. You'll need to trim the edges of the plumbing a bit, but it does fit.

My 90g is equipped with a 6x6 corner overflow and I was able to install a durso standpipe. It's small though. Only 1" pipe into 2" bulkhead. It works fine. I did have to "shorten" the T and the elbow to get it to fit. There should be no problem acceptig return flow from a Mag 12. I'm using a "Quiet One" pump. Similar flow rates I believe.

One last thing... How far from the side is your hole ?? Where I'm ordering my tank they recommend me 2.5" from the side, is it ok or a bit to far ?? my stand frame is made of 2x4 so I need at least 1.5" maybe 2" to be sure ????

TANGOMAN 10-16-2002 03:07 PM

Mine's approx. 2" from the edge. You don't want to be too close to the edge as you will "jepordize the structural integrity" of the glass.Whooa...that sounds too technical...I bumped my head just now crawling under the tank and I'm a liitle stupid...
I agree with Lee, I'd go with the 12" diaganal. I find my 6x6 corner rather intrusive. My 60g corner tank is set up with a diaganol overflow and it looks way better and it's easier to conceal...aaa,the excitement builds eh?
