How Heavy would a 90 Gallon Acrylic tank weigh?

im planning on eventually getting a larger tank, and im trying to find out the weight (both filled AND empty) over a glass tank of the same size.

i found that a 90 gallon glass tank would weight roughly 1050lbs full of water...

does anyone know how much a 90 gallon would weigh?

thank you in advance :D

ive searched the internet and cant find ACRYLIC weights, only glass.lol

i know that water weighs roughly 10lbs per Gallon...so its more the empty tank weight im looking for :D

Can you guestimate the weight of the tank based on density of the material? Acrylic is ~ 1/2 as dense as glass. Would that imply the tank (assuming equal construction) would weigh 1/2 as much of acrylic vs glass?

You can choose glass or acrylic

Well I could pretty easily move a 90 gal acrylic tank by myself, I've tried it will a glass tank and I can do it but it isn't pretty. I'd guess bout 75 lbs.

Really though with either oen the weight of the tank is pretty much nothing compared to the rock and water. If you're building a stand budget for a 100lbs and don't about the rest.

im just trying to work out a rough estimate of how heavy the tank would be....then i can calculate the weight of the water, etc.

damn..i have no clue how thick the acrylic would be (for the calculator.lol)

great link btw. thanks :D

i know a glass 90 gallon tank is about 1040lbs when full...

so should i just take 100lbs off of the glass weight to get a rough guesstimate?

so around 950lbs?

I would also guesstimate that it's about half the weight of glass. My wife & I can easily move around the 160g acrylic but no way can she help me move the glass 110g. However, I don't think it's a 100lbs difference for 90g tanks.

i jsut figured that a glass 55 gallon tank is around 80-90 lbs empty. so a tank a bit under half the side would be almost double the weight. altho im probably totally wrong.lol

would you choose glass or acrylic if you had the choice?

Glass hands down for me. (Low iron glass if possible)

Acrylic scratches way to easy IMO.

Glass for a reef tank (coraline algae will lead to lots of scratches when you try to keep the viewing panels clean) & plexi would be fine for a fowlr.
