surface bugs??

I have set up a 20 gallon propagation tank about a month ago...
(PICS SOON) I have noticed some tiny insect body floating near my skimmer outlet..I didn't think anything of it I thought maybe some insects flew in and died.. I was cleaning the surface water when I had noticed the little bus where everywhere and seemed tobe attracted to the spotlight I had lit after my lights day/actinics where turned off..
Any one out there have/had these bugs??
They seem to float and skim on the surface really fast.
Are they ok for my tank?

Sounds like free swimming copepods (aka "pods"). You're fish will love them. Perfectly harmless.

I think I have had the same thing. They look like little flies, right? Zipping about above the surface of the water and not in it? I don't know what they are either.

yeah yeah like little flies...
But I think theyd all died!?
I can see all of them 50-75 floating on the surface now..

If they're all dead and the fish aren't eating them, pull them out.

The little bugs are back and I noticed that they are larves on the glass and hatching after lights out!!
Are these ok??
I have no fish in the tank should I get one??
I just wanted a coral only tank.

They are harmless.

Edit:

I'd maybe concider trying a small mandarin in there. :)

KrazyKuch 06-11-2006 07:06 AM

I would throw a mandarin or 2 in their, with that high a pod count you would never have to feed them!!!!
