Please ID this crab for me!
 

I took this crab out of my 10 gallon today, but I'm not sure if this is a good crab or bad. Please help ID this thing. Also, I found another crab in the tank, from what I can see, it's a suspension feeder (has feather like hands like an anemone crab) and it's green or green/blue. Does anyone know what this is called? I didn't take it out cause I didn't think it would harm anything in the tank.

Probably would be difficult to ID as there are probably hundreds of similar species. If you aren't seeing any of your corals being eaten I would just leave it be. Of course there is another school of thought that says all crabs are evil! :evil:

I have the same filter feeder crab in one of my tanks. I believe it is harmless, probably some sort or porcelain crab.
As for that crab , I have no idea, but you know what they say: if it has sharp pointy claws its bad.

It's not a Sally Lightfoot.
Brennan is right, too hard to get actual id.
If you are worried donate him to somebody's sump.


The filter feeding crab is safe. He'll also eat flake food. Usually the darker species hide most of the time. He probably hitched a ride on a coral rock.

If you want to get rid of him I will take him I live in Vic if you want you can come over and take a look at my tank. I have some frags you might want.

Looks a little like one of the crabs we pulled out of one of our BB LR only quarantine tanks this morning. All I can tell you about our crab is that it makes one heck of a load of detritus :eek: The LR Q-tanks are not being fed, so I am assuming this crab is eating coralline and/or rock.

Since we are always in the mood to lessen the amount of detritus in our three BB systems, this and the other crab got the garberator treatment.

Am thinking of tearing down our fishless 37g and especially our 67g to get hitchhiker crabs out of them. The 67g has an unreal amount of detritus for having only a pair of ocellaris clowns and two cleaner shrimp :evil:

Favourite crabbing tool is the centre one with the long black stabber, so I guess you could say we're pretty blood thristy when it comes to getting rid of crabs :evil: :
