State of emergency declared for Calgary

Looks like 8 communities along the Elbow river are on mandatory Evac

This is getting very Nasty!!!

Glenmore reservoir to reach flood levels

City crews are scrambling to protect people living in communities downriver from the Elbow River.

The Glenmore reservoir is flowing over the dam and is expected to reach 1.3 metres between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m.

When that happens, officials say there will be significant flooding downstream.

Waterworks officals say the Saddledome, Talisman Centre and Macleod Trail are all potentially threatened.

Bannister Road is under water. Green Gate garden centre was flooded earlier today. Fish Creek Park is a complete mess. At least three of the pedestrian bridges are gone (washed out / off their footings). When I crossed Fish Creek at McLeod earlier this evening, the entire plain was flooded out, almost a kilometre wide stretch flooded/swamped out. The entire McInnish/Holloway memorial forest swamped out. This is Fish Creek, not the Bow. Absolutely devastating.

Most people I know have flooded basements. I am truly sorry to those who have to clean that up now. Having had flooded basement myself many times before, I know what a PITA it can be. Hang in there and good luck.

ya when i went out earlier tonite 6pm as I am driving over the Fish Creek Bridge and saw how high the water was I almost saif a few choice words (lucky I didnt my kids where in the car) The creek has definately rising a few meters that thing barely had any water in it

My Parents place is flooded (haysboro) but not much water, most of their basement is raised up ((whoever hsd the house before them must of had a flood before. Also alot of Haysboro is over top alot of under ground rivers as well.. the neighbor across the street has a sump pump in the basement.

my my parents other neight (who I know he is a cousins friend) he was over toight to get my dads wetvac as his basement has quite a bit of water in the basement as well

Devastating. Just devastating...

How's everything now?

I've got some friends in the Hamptons (NW)........... are they in any trouble?

Cheers,
Vic [veng68]

The Hamptons are sitting high up in the north, Vic, and the land falls away in two directions from that neighbourhood. They should be OK, unless the developer really screwed up the grades for the lots.

As for everything else, I dunno... the Bow River down below my place is a giant brown flood, and all the parks along it are closed / flooded. I have never seen the river look like that - it's like one of those disaster news clips you see.

We now have mandatory water restrictions in effect. Even the little creek that usually putters down thru our neighbourhood is a charging little torrent. It's bizarre.

This is one of the parks/catchbasins in my neighbourhood. Its normally full of pathways etc, and takes a day or two to drain out, down toward the river. ... (from Tony's link in the Pictures thread.)
