Good Return Pump?

Hi there everyone,

Just wondering if this is a good return pump?

http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/s...ct_ID=wp-q3000

Im looking for a return pump that is under $80 and that pumps at least 300gph at 6'head. Any suggestions, please let me know. Or if you have one for sale that meets that requirement please PM. Thanks.

Chris

Re: Good Return Pump?

From what I have heard they are good pumps, one thing I did notice when I compared Quiet One pumps to Mag pump is the Mag pumps do not loose as much flow as the QO pumps at the same heigh. Someone can correct me on this if I'm wrong, I just went off the graphs...

I bought one of those to use for my FOWLR tank, and it was unreliable. It is not quiet, and it won't restart after it is shut off. I always had to try 15-20 times to get it to run again. Either that or I had to pull it out of the water so there was no load on the impeller. Not good if the power ever went off as it would not restart itself. I replaced it with a MAG 7, and thats what I'd reccoment to you.

This is to whaase:

Where did you get that?

The Mag 500 does 500gph at 0ft head, at 6ft head it does 190...that is 38% of its max flow. The quiet one pump I showed does 780gph at 0ft head, it does 450gph at 6ft head which is 58% of its max flow. 20% less loss?

Thanks for the review on the quiet one.

Alright, good to know, and thank-you for that.

Hmmm, at the time I was comparing a QO4000 and a Mag 950. The Mag drive has better output at 6' than the QO. Here is the QO specs

http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_...n.asp#qone3000

And the Mag 950

It seems to be opposite for anything smaller.. weird.

I just replaced my Quiet One 1200 because it was the noisiest piece of crap I've ever owned.

Lesson to be learned, folks: SAVE THE BOX

I bought a Mag because of overwhelming positive word of mouth about the mag pumps on various boards.

Or if you want to spend more $$$, and Eheim will be quieter and have good German reliability.

I have a Mag 2400 which I got from J&L's. Quite happy with it, its a rugged construction, submersible or inline and runs great. But its VERY loud. My wife made me drill holes through our nice laminate floor in the dining room and put the pump into the crawl space beneath the house. It was far too loud to try and watch TV in the conected living room.
