Sump design critique

Just wanted to get your opinion and critique on this sump design I was thinking about. Picture shows ball valve way up but it will be closer to the return pump. There will also be a gate valve in the main drain utilizing the herbie method. Thanks!

Looks fine. Concept is great at sump design and have done lots and know all the ins and outs and can do simple sumps pretty cheap, check them out.

It may just be the way the picture looks but the single baffle between your refugium and return section looks to be as tall or taller than the center baffle of your sump section. You would not want it any higher than your 1st and 3rd baffle of your skimmer section otherwise the water level would be higher than your bubble trap and the micro bubbles produced in your sump section will just flow directly to your return section and into your tank. Otherwise the design looks just fine.

What is the purpose of your refugium? How are you going to fill the ATO when it's behind the skimmer?

Are you planning on using filter socks ?
If so, they would be best put before the skimmer and have a chamber of their own

Look at some Concept builds for ideas ...

And ya, having your ATO in the sump is a waste of realestate and hard to get at. Especially when you have to clean out the mulm that will eventually build up when bacteria grows in there

Keep it separate and accessible
