unknown algae help need it
 

hello reeferssss,

these little algae or whatever this is started to appear in my tank last month, didnt notice at first until it start to get more and more. Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

Looks like flatworms

what is the best way to get rid of them?

Siphon as many out as you can and use flat worm exit, follow the instructions to the letter. Get on it now as they multiply fast. If it is really bad you might have to remove all the rock & dip in a strong solution of flat worm exit as well as all your corals.

I have been battling them in my cube and it got to the point that I took all the rock out & dipped/washed all my frags. Rock will be replace after the tank is completely cleaned & sand is replaced.

Sadly some times the best coarse of action is a complete clean out and restart if they are over coming the tank.

Yup like the Grizz said taking out the rocks and sand and restarting might be the best way, but that may not be an option for most. Flatworms are a nightmare... If you kill them in the tank they are extremely toxic so you have to siphon them out once the treatment comes near the end, run heavy heavy carbon and keep up water changes for a day or two to remove any toxins left behind. There's really no way to get rid of them 100 percent in the first try or two, but you can keep them under control, if you keep repeating the treatments you will eventually kill all the eggs and future generations too.

I had them really bad. Used flatworm exit. and then bought me a wrasse. Have not seen any flat worms in over three months..be careful though after i treated the tank all my fish look as if they were going to die..did a big water change after and they were better with in a couple days..Good luck.

wow thats allot of flatworms. I would definitely syphon them out before doing flatworm exit , there is allot there so there will be even more in the rocks/hiding, as mentioned they are toxic when they die.
I would also add a wrasse if possible , or you could look for velvet nudibranchs they will eat them . The velvets will also die when you run out of flatworms . I had the same ones from bringing a single ricordia from a lfs home . Its been a long battle but I did not want to use any chemical's in my tank. So I have been just syphoning them out everyday I just get a small tube and start syphoning as many as I can see that day , 2-3 times a day , if you use a small hose you will not take out much water I also added a yellow wrasse and he has been a big help , you could also try a target mandarin as they can help but are hit and miss. six lines devour them , believe it or not saltwater mollies destroy them in a very short time:)
