regal angel

Has anyone had luck getting a Red Sea Regal to eat something?

Clams on the half shell. Realize in the wild they feed off the rocks so that's where your food needs to be. There is a great primer thread on Reef2Reef.

I am in the process of finding another myself.

regal angel

I ordered a regal angel from J & L. He was Red Sea. A nice fat fish in great shape. They packaged him very well. After a fresh water dip he went in my display tank. It has been four weeks now and he seems healthy and active. I just have not seen him eat anything. I have offered clams on half shell, scallops, mysis, brine shrimp ,sponge on rock, nori. Nada. I have not seen him eat anything, but he still seems ok. Even tried Easy Reefs mastic. Anyone have any advice on how to tempt him to eat?

Unfortunately alot of these angels don't eat much in captivity if at all.
Once in a while you will get lucky though.
I would not purchase one in the future unless you see it eating well in person.
I find mine loves nori and any type of shrimp really.
You need to keep the stress low on these angels to keep them alive.
Even tangs can be too aggressive for some regals.
Best to have them as your first fish in the tank if possible.
I went through a couple regals to find one that was eating sufficiently to keep its weight up.
Good luck they are beauties!
