Old Clowns
 

Morning everyone.
Had my tank going on 11 years now.
I have 2 clowns. Can not put anything with them, or they kill it.
I have been told my fish should not have lived this long, but they are still going strong. 10 years old. One is twice the size as the other.

Some species of clown can live as long as 30 years if not longer especially now that clowns have been bred extensively to bring out certain qualities.

You may want to think about rehoming them if you want more fish

the black clowns are especially mean in my experience . But like Dearth said they can live much longer than the 10 years you have had them , I would also recommend re-homing or set up a smaller set up for them , if you do want other fish and I would also recommend getting CB Clowns . This day and age no point to get wild caught clowns , just leave them in the ocean .

Your fish are still young. They can easily live for another 20 years plus. Most clownfish don't live that long because of poor husbandry. The large one is the female.

The best way to add new fish to your tank is either to isolate the clowns from the new addition for a few weeks or better yet move the clowns out of the tank for a couple weeks. When you put the clowns back in the other fish will have their own territory and the clowns will be out of sort for a while. Don't try to add another clown.

This works for percula and ocellaris but not so well with maroon, sebae, cinnamon, clarke or tomatoe.

Clownfish are territorial especially near their nest. They are closely related to damsels and have a similar aggression.

I had a tomato clown once that was so aggressive he had to live out his 15 or so years in the sump all alone.

They are actually a really deep purple. The big one used to lay eggs against one of the rocks. But the crabs kept eating them before i realized what they were. She no longer lays eggs anywhere. They used to be with a dwarf Lion, but unfortunately he left us a couple years ago.
Im not sure if I want any new fish right now. But was told if I do, take them out of the tank and rearrange the rock then add them all to to tank. Havent tried yet. But I wouldnt mind a garden eel.
