Can you bring live rocks on the plane

does anyone know if you can bring live rocks on the plane to bring them from cal to van??

UnderWorldAquatics 01-16-2004 06:44 AM

if you have a proper cities permit you can, or you an go to jail without one.... its not worth shipping your own imported rock unless you are bringing in over a few hundred pounds of liverock at a time

so i cant bring rocks from calgary to vancouver without a permit??

i thought cities where only requierd when crossing international borders.

as CAL and VAn are in Canada a cities permet should nto be requierd

"Cal" could also mean California....

No permit needed, but the number of a good chiropractor maybe.

From Calgary, no permit; from California, yes permit.

Live rock is listed in CITES as Scleractinia and is an Appendix II restriction, which unfortunately means it must be accompanied by a CITES certificate if you attempt to bring any into Canada from outside Canada.

But from point A in Canada to point B in Canada, knock yerself out  Once it's in, it's in... No different than buying a box of liverock from, say, J&L via mail-order.

I read it wrong on the first read too.

They are right no cites necessary.

Are you taking it with you as a passenger ?

Weight & size Restrictions ?
Packing ?

Or are you going to just use cargo, there are a few problems that arise there...................

Just a few questions I would ask.

sorry, you should have said the desolate wasteland of western canada(calgary) I thought you meant california, from what I can recall, if you have a full box of rock they might not let you even put it in cargo as it will be too heavy, and definatly not let you bring it as carry on, too heavy,(unless you pay extra) if you do mannage, make sure you get extra heat packs and seal the box well of they will complain of the stench even if its cured, personally its not worth the hassle if you ask me, get it shipped greyhound or some other way... better yet buy from a decent local store, the rock wont be any different over here....

I think he must be thinking of buying used rock, because the rock here is far more expensive than what you would find in Vancouver.
