Rhody's 2012 nano contest entry
For me this is a complete adventure. My semi-successful 80g reef has taught me a lot.
Thanks to frag fest, I won a 6 gal fluval edge. I hope to be able to modify it to my liking. |

sounds like a good build , one of the nicest nanos i ever seen was a fluval edge:) |
a post has been made in all the contest forumns regarding contest rules via the timeline, everyone should read this post as there seems to be some confusion.

I'm gonna use what I got. Lol. And the price was right. Free. I'm looking to do a sump system using some old tanks I got kicking around. The sump volume Will prob end up being bigger than the display.
My goal is a simple very reliable system. It's worth a shot at least. |

I hope you accomplish urban goal it seems like it on the right path |
The Edge can be a great reef. It will really show off your skills.

I like the clean styling of the edge. There are some DIY things I want to do. Most of my DIY projects on my 80g work but arent the cleanest installs. At least in my eyes in comparison to the large amounts of sources on the Internet.
My sump idea is on the fence. It depends on how the layout of the edge is. I will be doing my dry tank pics right away which pretty much is my first actual look at the insides of the edge. This brings up and extra challenge. I will call it the mystery box challenge. Lol. Give a person a box with the unknown inside what can I make of it? I want to do a led light conversion for my liking of lps and tricolor sps. |
hey buddy , i found a helpful thread dedicated to edge tanks , check it out some cool ideas:)

In the box. Thank you frag fest.
http:// Now the unwrapping http:// It's so tiny. Def a nano. I have a par38 bulb on its way. Hoping to do either a DIY hood mod, or simply go with a desk stand of sorts mounted to the stand. Mike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
And now for the assembled pics
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps61179a1e.jpg I took a rock out of my display tank. It has some waving hand Xenia. At least that's what I'm told it is. I came up with an idea. No substrate but instead have the whole bottom covered in gsp. So as to look like grass. I have lots of gsp in my main tank. So I got a loose chunk out to get the bottom started. After one night all the polyps were out. That's a good sign. I got a new waterproof camera. A Olympus tough -820. It has a macro setting. And seems to look quite good. I will upload them soon. I look forward to seeing how your GSP carpet is going to work. I think it will look great, but I wonder if it will complicate anything.
