should I remove my balls?

Hi all, i just started up a 29gl biocube after a 5year absence in the hobby. I'm just wondering if i should remove the bio balls in the second chamber and simply replace them with a bag of chemipure and some filter floss or has anyone had success with there balls not turning into a nitrate factory?

You should definitely remove your balls and dont even replace them with anything. I don't think anyone runs bioballs anymore.

As for your personal balls...... Please keep them.

Only one reply and this thread is already in the gutter. GEEZ. HEHE....

I algree with Dez just leave it open, or if you can put some larger pieces of LR rubble that may fit.

And yes, with your personal balls, don't want anything to do with them.

get rid of them, i also got rid of the replaceable filter and went with a small filter sock. alot cheaper then replacing those filters.

+1 for removal, they can be kept if they are rinsed out religiously once a week with water from a water change... But who has the time for that

thanks guys(R & B), this saddle feels pretty good already, as for my thread, i guess i only have myself to blame-wise a$$ subject-wise a$$ remarks:mrgreen:

i have taken out half the bio balls so far and threw in a bag of chemipure and some filter floss on top of the remaining balls, the only problem i think i may run into by removing all the balls is that water flowing into the second chamber without the height that the balls create will greatly added trickle or splashing noise before it reaches the bottom of the chamber where the floss and carbon would be placed.

Any ideas:question:

i have just added two skunk clowns and a yellow watchmen, hopefully with the well cured live cultured rock i won't get to high of a spike, will try to get a pic up later if i can remember how to post one:redface:

If you're married and she hasn't removed them already, she will soon.

If you're not married, there's always the tax man.....

yeah i got rid of the bioballs in the middle chamber too. i also removed the plastic crate the bioballs were suspended by to get more live rock rubble into that chamber with chaeto.
