Looking to get some sodium nitrate does anyone know of a good local source

Its restricted by natural resources canada. I think you can only buy up to 25% in canada with out a permit under the explosives act.
So you are better off making your own with ammonium nitrate, sodium hydroxide and water. They are much easier to find, ammonium nitrate can be found at hydroponics or farm supply stores. Sodium Hydroxide is found at soap supply stores.
I used to make my own rocket fuel as a kid its why I know all this.

I ordered Sodium nitrate from www.thesciencecompany.com and it went through customs fine. It was correctly labeled right on the outside of the package.

Thankyou I checked into them and they only ground ship and it cost 103 bucks to get it here, seems a little steep for an 8 dollar product. But it is considered a hazardous material I suppose

Is this for reefing? If you are looking for a nitrate source three is theplantguy.org that has calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate and potassium nitrate. He used to sell sodium nitrate but it's not listed on his site anymore. Look under the fertilizer section

It sure is, I am struggling to get nitrates for some reason and belive this to be the reason my sps are now lacking their vibrant color. Thanks for the info I will check it out.

I don't think it is a lighting issue, I did a tank swap a few months back and have used all the same equipment. The only real changes I have made aside the increased water volume was a new sand bed, since moving over the livestock the nitrate has become undetectable. Not sure if the sand bed is playing a role in this.

I've been using flourish nitrogen to bring my nitrate up a bit I'm using 2ml a day it keeps the nitrates at about .2 in 90-100 gallons. i did a lot of reading first as its made for freshwater but I found info on a flourish forum from a scientist at seaChem saying it's reef safe.
