---This is my first official post for the annual 2012 Nano Contest---

Hello everyone on Canreef,
This is my entry for the annual 2012 Nano Contest!
I hope everyone has a great time in this contest and above all, has tons of fun. It looks like 25 people in the contest are going to keep this interesting.

My entire goal is to create a beautiful, responsible and stable Marine Environment for all living inhabitants to be enjoyed for the long haul!

The basic plan/idea for this tank will be “Island Rock Pile” including some slope full of Pallys, Zoas and Mushrooms all over the bottom and mid edges. LPS located on the bottom and mid-level of tank while SPS may be placed anyplace deemed necessary! Who knows what surprises may POP up now and then! I may decide to have some gobies or invert only style tank to keep husbandry schedule under control!

Now as for some past tanks I’ve kept:
55G Cichlid tank
46G Reef tank
10Gal Reef tank
3G Pico tank

----------------Some Inspiration----------------
Nice Colors

At the moment I’m unable to find some clear photos of the past tanks, because I really don’t keep track of the photos that well haha. When I find some they will get posted.

Here are the specifications for the tank!

----------------Equipment----------------

1) Pet Smart Standard 10G
1) DIY-ADA StyleAquarium Stand

----------------Filtration/Circulation----------------

20% Water changes weekly
8 Pounds of semi live rock and 2 Pounds of Live Rock (from established system)
1) Koralia one (425gph)
1) No name water pump (200lph)
Unknown amount of Mini snails
Unknown amount of Mysis
Unknown amount of Mini stars
Unknown amount of Pods

----------------Livestock----------------
Yet to be determined

----------------Photo Requirements----------------
Empty Tank Shot

Boxboy 09-16-2012 10:37 PM

Setback,

My 200w Eco Plus Heater just flaked out forever. Its just over a year old!
Thank heavens I got Aqua Clear 100w heater for the contest tank!

See, suprises just pop up.

nanoreefnewbie 09-16-2012 11:44 PM

I'm liking the plans man:biggrin:

Boxboy 09-18-2012 08:27 PM

Thanks :) I only hope to build something beautiful. I hope eveyone has fun!

Boxboy 09-18-2012 08:36 PM

Looks like I need to get some snails, ugly brown setting in.

nanoreefnewbie 09-18-2012 09:59 PM

Ugly brown from what?..

Boxboy 09-18-2012 10:21 PM

from not having a clean up crew lol

Aysha 09-19-2012 12:55 AM

Shouldn't be, there's not supposed to be water in it yet:razz:

Boxboy 09-19-2012 01:03 AM

Ohh its got water, other people even got corals in theres o_O
It was set up the day before I even knew about the contest.
So still very very new.

Aysha 09-19-2012 01:13 AM

The guy who has coral in his isn't using his for the contest.

tank has to be a complete fresh start:
the build has to be from complete scratch, you dont need to build the tank your self , you dont need to buy new its up to you where the tank comes from or even what you use as a tank but it is expected to be dry prior to oct15th 2012

Boxboy 09-19-2012 01:45 AM

Should I drain the water?

nanoreefnewbie 09-19-2012 02:07 AM

I wouldn't drain water just try not keep too schedule from now on make it all on even terms bud

Boxboy 09-19-2012 02:13 AM

Hahah the first time Ive ever let a tank get nasty lol
Ok, I wont even top up water. just let it do its thing.

but if doing nothing will get me in trouble I can drop out to be fair to everyone.
I dont want to seem as a unfair person.

maybe I should have read rules slower o_O

reefwars 09-19-2012 02:24 AM

a post has been made in all the contest forumns regarding contest rules via the timeline, everyone should read this post as there seems to be some confusion.

It is fine to have water in it. Denny has clarified this a couple of times. :) No worries.

Boxboy 09-19-2012 03:14 AM

My tank now has a 4" crack in the back of tank, out of no where :(

Boxboy 09-19-2012 03:22 AM

No choice now but to replace the tank. Lets all say it together now, SETBACK!

No idea, and looks like starphire tank wont work out either. I would have to buy a kit of 5 tanks for over $200 with shipping. So I may just DIY it since ive got a bunch of 6mm glass laying around.

I'd just hit up a standard 10 gallon tank and cut off the plastic trim :)

Boxboy 09-19-2012 11:12 PM

Thats what Im using right now, its about $30ish for 10G in this town. I can get a new 15 tho.
Half affraid of removing the trim, since glass is so thin. If I can sell my Vertex Illumilux light Ill be buying a mp10 as to get ride of k2 powerhead. Hate things in the tank..

Enigma 09-20-2012 01:26 AM

I'd be hesitant to remove the trim on a tank with such thin glass. It looks nice, though.

Boxboy 09-23-2012 11:55 PM

Here is some pics of the DIY ADA knock off Im using for this tank!

Supply of frags I may have to buy..

Enigma 09-24-2012 02:08 AM

The stand is looking very nice. And those frags . . . Wow.

intarsiabox 09-24-2012 02:53 AM

Nice looking stand! I see you even made a cut out for the controller. I was thinking of removing the trim on my 10g earlier on in my thought process but after seeing how much silicone is holding it on and how thin the glass is I decided to live with it and use a plastic canopy that I had for it. I have a glass top as well that I may have to use if I decide to use a hanging LED fixture that I have or just go topless.

Boxboy 09-24-2012 11:12 AM

Thank guys/Gals, I do think the stand is pretty sold. Yes the whole is for a controller. But its to small to fite lol The Frags are nice yes. My supplyer always has great stuff :) I also agrree, would never remove the trim from a 10gal tank. to risky. and yes you should go topless with your tank and some trype of hanging fixture :-D just remember to make/get top off system. evap is crazy..

Thanks for your kind comments. I will be following your threads too.

fishoholic 09-24-2012 01:33 PM

The stand looks great! So do the sps frags to choose from, look out wallet

Boxboy 09-24-2012 02:14 PM

Hahah yeah its costly, oo well. Thanks for the kind comments.
Those frags are sweet in person..

Boxboy 09-26-2012 03:32 PM

Looks like Ive forgot to take some photos of the "water test." and "equpment' does this mean im subject to loose points?
