Pukani in Canada?

Hey all,

I am looking to re-scape my tank as i'm not satisfied with my rock work or the rock (I previously bough "Real Reef" rock.

I love the look of Pukani, but now that fijireefrock.com seems to be defunct, i'm looking for a source in Canada. I did look on BRS, as I had rock shipped from there many years ago, but they don't ship their Pukani to Canada :(

Anyone know where I can get rock shipped from online, or any place in Edmonton?

Reef supplies has pukani and fuji mixed. I got some really nice prices when I ordered.

Tough one. Never saw it in try rock form on websites.

GQsmooth 12-14-2016 06:37 PM

Let me know if you find any, I'm looking for the same thing.

I know Eli use to work very closely with Concept when fiji reef rock was around... or was it Denny... anyways... it wouldn't hurt to give them a call.

Myka 12-15-2016 04:32 AM

Did you try Reef Supplies? I know their live rock says it's a mix of Pukani and Fiji.

Thought it was live not *dead* but I could be mistaken.

Concept does stock dry rock now. I picked some up last month.

It looks to be the the same or very similar to BRS Reef Saver. No sign of ever having life on it.

Yes, I was thinking if they have it live, maybe they have it dead too.

The last I heard was here? I guess Eli may update the site or us here @ Canreef hopefully with some info. Hope he's okay.

Damn, so do we have to order from the US now, and get raped with delivery charges/exchange rates?

You can't even order Pukani from BRS. It says shipping outside of the States is restricted!

The thing that makes no sense is you could buy BRS Reef Saver rock...

shiftline 12-19-2016 07:59 PM

Fijireefrock has it. Or at least did last year when I was ordering rock

Eli @ Fiji Reef Rock

I've been trying to get a hold of Eli for the last 3 weeks without any luck.

Even tried to get in touch with him through some local Calgary reefers but came out with nothing.

I hope he's okay and just taking a break.

I'm looking to setup my tank in the next month or so.. hoping Eli will respond soon and be able to hook me up with some awesome rock he carries.

Concept does not have it.

The US distributor won't ship it here, they say high tariffs but when I offer to pay then say they can't.

I can buy it in the UK/EU and Australia but not in Canada?

straight from their webiste. http://www.tampabaysaltwater.com/dryrock/index.html
"Dry Pukani live rock is not available for shipment to Canada or internationally due to high permit fees."

They're talking about CITES permits which are the same permits required to import hard corals (both LPS and SPS), as well as clams, seahorses, and some others. These permits are applied for and supplied by the seller. It's not very often that CITES permits will be supplied for hobbyist buyers, usually only commercial buyers because it's not worth the effort for the seller if it's not a large order. Maybe if you ordered 1000 lbs they would do the CITES permit for you??

Eli is no longer selling rocks.
He had the best selection of dry rocks... my favourite tonga branch and shelve

DKoKoMan 01-03-2017 04:38 AM

Starting to think you will need to buy live rock if you want pukani. Not sure what other options are around unless you pay an arm and a leg.
