Shrimp and goby

Does anyone know if a sandsifting goby can be paired with a tiger pistol shrimp? Have you ever heard of this or is it possible?

Which goby?

coolhandgoose 04-30-2011 05:23 AM

An orange spotted sand sifting goby.

Orange Spotted Gobies are found naturally with Tiger pistol shrimp.

Hmmm, I think I should be more specific since there's confusing info out there.

It's mainly the fish I want, and thought it'd be a good idea to pair it with a tiger pistol shrimp. The fish is an orange spotted sand sifting goby. It's sometimes referred to as a diamond watchman goby.
I hope this link works.

Ah ok. There are two "Orange Spotted Goby". Amblyeleotris guttata (shrimp goby) has black pectoral fins while Valenciennea puellaris (sifter goby) has white. The sifter doesn't pair with pistol shrimp, where the shrimp goby should.

Orange Spotted Shrimp Goby is Amblyeleotris guttata:

Orange Spotted Sleeper Goby (sifter) aka Diamond Goby is Valenciennea puellaris:

I have the Watchman (non-sifting) Goby (top picture) and he's paired with my pistol shrimp. They make a great team.

I don't know if the sand sifter Gobys pair with shrimp

Thanks so much for the help!

I went and dropped a bunch of money on coral today so getting a new fish is going to have to wait anyway
