How Much Is Your Energy Bill?

Hey guys,

I know there are calculators out there, but how much do you think it costs in Calgary to run a 165G Reef Tank with 35G Sump?

What are your costs if you've calculated them and what is your setup?

Thanks!

It depends a lot on your lighting.

The pump take near to nothing, so it's the heaters and the lighting that will take the most.

If you use T5 or LED, it will cost much less than having 3 x 400 watts MH or 3 x 250 watts MH.

You don't wanna know, well ok...

Between the biz and the aquarium, my bill ranges from $600-700/mth

With a 90 Gal tank, two 400W metal halides, and a 110 Gal sump (not full). I also have 2 100Gal resivoirs heated and mixed, and a 125Gal freshwater with 140Gal sump and my power bill effectivly doubled from 45$ to $90 a month. Not too bad but definitely noticable.

For about $25 at Canadian Tire you can buy a watt meter and it will calculate both your usage and it cost. I bought one to get a better understanding of the total wattage that I was running on a single circuit.

My 3 tanks total approx 400G cost me about $45 to $50 per month.

I have never even looked or cared "my" theory is if I have to worry how much it costs to run maybe I shouldn't have one in the 1st place
