Whats your opinion on the best powerheads?
I had a chance to review these recently and was surprised at just how much of a difference they make :)

I think 'best' is sort of a subjective term.

Whats best for 1 person is not necessarily the best for someone else.
It all comes down to what you need vs what you can afford.

best is hard.

I run jebao power heads, not because I cant afford the vortechs, mainly i just cant justify $500 for a single powerhead. esp. when I read about people having to replace the wet sides the dry sides the drivers ect. if my $90 jebaos last a year Im happy.
Im not trying to start a debate whether the vortech is a better pump, Im sure it is but myself i don't think its 5 times better or 5 times more durable.
at the end of the day they both move water and can do it in constant flow mode random mode and on/off creating a wave. good enough for me. Id rather take the extra savings and do multiple hobbies instead of dumping all my disposable cash on my fish tank, like whistler bike park season passes for example!!!

I have two Tunze 6105's and one Jebao WP-40. I don't notice any difference in noise, reliability or flow. The Jebao has been going strong for a few years, I forget how long. Nothing wrong with these powerheads and no reason to spend big $$$ on the more expensive name brands IMO.

Best bang for your buck is jebao for sure. Good controlability as well. You can buy 3-4 of them for the price of one vortec. I ran 2 WP40's for 2 years without cleaning them once with no issues. Now I run rw15's, rw20's and wp25's on a combo of systems and must say I couldn't be happier. And if one breaks, it dosnt break the bank to replace a part or even the whole thing.

Basically if you have the money to burn, get a vortec. But if you want a good powerhead for your money, go with the jebao.

Tunze have a long history of being one if the best.

Vortech have a pretty solid reputation on a unique style of powerhead.

Maxspect Gyre are newer but very unique style that is pretty nice.

If you have an Apex controller, the company put out some new powerheads recently that are supposed to be really good that work good with the controller.

I have 1 Jebao out of 5 that I have purchased over the last 3 years. I'm not the only 1 with this kind of results from Jebao. Some have better luck.
