Mikes 60 gallon corner

Hey reefer's I am back again. Its been a long time, I got out of reefing in 2014 after moving to the east with the army. I played with the idea of starting on when I moved back here. But the area I was in was famous for power outages. So last year I bought my retirement home which was in a better area. and once I moved in my water had to be sorted out. SO after finding out I had some serious problems with my water, my cichlid tank I was losing many fish.
So now I have retired from the Army after 30 years and 133 days and it feels different. So now I will hang with my boxers and now salt water again.
So step one redo the laundry room and remove all problems.
now my water has a complete water system and of course one fancy dam RO unit ahahah.

so it brings me here I wont be keeping the corner for long once it can sustain life and rock for a year I will be doing my custom dream tank. that one will be the bong.com lol 120x24x24 euro braced. but enough of that. FOCUS peeps.

TANK:
60 gal drilled towards the top with a over flow box

LIGHTING will be 2 options
LED MITRAS 6200
MH DE 250 from my best friend Doug Lowey's Miss ya still Doug:sad:

SUMP
will consist of a custom one to have a areas

HEATING
2x 300w with temp controller

FILTERATION
ok, ok, ok, I am going to say it My mind is blank. I know right me  the skimmer king who all knew me in the past owned every type of skimmer. So that I could actually give a valid point and opinion to others who love this hobby. But I know that there is newer ones out there so please chime in so that I can here your opinion.

ROCK will be 50 lbs of Key largo dry rock

So its drill the tank time and start the plumbing.

Yeah, lately I've just been linking them. Sucks to bit have the image show when the thread is opened, but photobucket really screwed over a lot of people

Hello

Hey welcome back Mike. Which unit were you in before?

Get a larger one. Now that you are retired you have more time in your hands so go big.

Get one with a recirculating pump and neck cleaner.

www.imgur.com works really well too. Use your computer though. I don't like the mobile app. And it lets you realize the pics so they are not too big for Canreef

Ah I see. You are now in the West? I was in Vancouver during the summer and went to see some old friends at Jericho Garrison but after waiting for 20 minutes I Googled things around only then to realize they moved everything to Seaforth Highlanders.

Skimmerking 03-11-2020 12:48 PM

Good Morning Titus. I have been busy with other things during retirement on what to buy for toys. in the middle of renos with 3 bathrooms so my fish tank is put on hold.

some bumps are better than others. this one's really good haha.

WE'RE WAITING...

Skimmerking 01-30-2022 10:42 PM

Man i really suck of updating. getting renos ready for the master bath. looking forward of moving back to the west this summer. so much has changed since i was in the hobby since 2014 i cant get over it. i still have my Mitras 6200 will run that for a bit on the corner tank.

Ok Skimmers what are people running on their softie tanks.

Skimmerking 03-07-2022 09:10 PM

So sorry Canreef people for a delay. I have been sorting out my home to move and getting renos done. i am running my 100gal 5 footer fresh water tank with Blue parrots fish and a couple of red tail sharks aswell with some red head geophagus's. I am hoping to transfer these out to Manitoba when the time comes for me to drive out.
ok back to Salt questions where I have been out of the hobby since 2013. I have always loved doing inwall tanks. But I am still not sure where i will be living. I am hoping for a slab so I wont have a basement. but we shall see lol. I was looking into the reef ready tanks that comes with everything. I cant recall the names of the type of tanks that has all built into one. But I am still loving the dude out in Calgary who makes tanks. another thing I can remember hahaha.

I would love to do a 8 footer again or a 10 footer with a over flow off the back. Thoughts peeps love to hear what others think and what made you go with a built tank or the other tank with all in one i believe the tanks are built up to 150 gal i believe they are quite pricey but comes with everything more simplicity for me.

Skimmerking 09-23-2022 11:11 PM

Hey, peeps I'm back and living in Virden Manitoba i have ordered a few things

refractometer.

Temp controller
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/..._AC_SX569_.jpg

500-w titanium heat

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/...WL._SX466_.jpg

i was going to make a overflow box and drill the tank on the back but J&L has some wicked overflow boxes to use with small clearances. these look pretty cool had to try it.

https://www.jlaquatics.com/media/cat...esh-ofpr02.jpg

still looking at what type of skimmer that i will use i know right the skimmer king is stumped. please chime in on what you would do for a skimmer the corner tank is a 60 gal corner so i am thinking 150 gal -200 gallon skimmer

the tank is a hagen 54 gal corner
https://images.offerup.com/Q1QAe_1-6...d471742e88.jpg

the bio for this tank will be
2 clowns
a cucumber tiger tail
blood shrimp x3
cleaners x3
blenny
yellow tang x1
green toad stool leather
bubble coral
zoos
some polyps
maybe a flame angel

lighting will be my Mittras 6200 that i still have.
but i do have a pendant 250DE 12 k bulb that Doug AKA FLATLANDER used to own.

some tunze 6025's for flow

return pump might be a DC or a ehiem 1260

Skimmerking 09-28-2022 01:03 AM

picked up the over flow today and the heater.

drilled the corner tank

time to search for a sump I will be having the sump remotely in the back room so i can run a bigger skimmer and a refug aswell

now what tye of skimmer folks, looking at the curve 5 but i am still up in the air on what bubble mague. vertex maybe

what are your thoughts 60 gal tank maybe a 50-gal sump so a skimmer with 100-120 gal maybe get a skimmer to be rated for 200gal maybe

WarDog 10-01-2022 01:07 AM

50 gallon sump seems pretty big for a 60 gallon tank. My 60 gallon tank only had 15 gallons of water in the sump. Remember you want to leave room for when the pump turns off. You want to match your skimmers rating fairly close to your total water volume, if you go too big you will end up pulling nutrients out of the water too quickly. Reef Octopus makes reliable skimmers that won't break the bank, I'm extremely happy with my 110SS.
