Happy and bittersweet day
 

Well today is a happy and bittersweet day for me.

My female clownhole which I have had since I started the hobby in 2012 has finally died.

I don’t miss her just for the simple fact that I have way too many scars on my hands from her biting them and on many occasions drawing blood causing me untold pain.

It’s bittersweet because even though she annoyed me to no end and was bully to my other fish she was also very entertaining and brought smiles and consternation to me over her antics.

I don’t know how my male is feeling as they never really hung out together the last couple of years so it’s tough to say if he is depressed or is just carrying on with life. Unfortunately because I work 12 hr shifts I won’t be able to tell until my days off start on Thursday

I lost my 20 year old tomato clown a few months ago. I had to wear heavy gloves to do anything in the tank she was such a biting b****. Was sad to lose her after so long. Haven't decided if I want to get another clown yet.

I lost a clown a few months ago and was pretty devastated. Jumped out of a gap in the lid.

Replaced quickly (1 week) with a tiny darker Clown. This clown constantly tries to bite my hand. He's small so no damage done but I'm pretty worried about when it gets larger.

Well like most hobbyists, keeping clowns always go hand in hand with aquariums, mine bites to no end, they host in corals that don't tolerate them to the point of closing up, while other corals tolerate them but they are so entertaining...if I ever want a new fish most likely not another clownfish.

Yeah it will always sting when you lose a fish, even the mean ones.

Curious what clowns you guys have that are so mean?
I know Tomatos and Maroons can be aggressive.
But I've never had any biting issues with common Percula/Ocellaris.

I have two pairs of ocellaris and they bite. My original pair used to be really mellow so I was smug about that. However after they were moved to the small tank, they got very territorial (they have no interest in hosting and just sleep on the sand). The bigger one started biting which is SO annoying in a small tank. I think the size of the tank definitely makes a difference. My pair in the big tank, the larger one bites but very lightly, more like a tap, and only if I'm close to their nem. The smaller males don't bite.
I would still be sad though, as I do get very attached. My first pair were my very first fish so I didn't re-home them - I set up the small tank for them.

Btw I like these gloves as they're quite tough and have a better fit. I had to order them from the US before but recently they started carrying them at Lee Valley.

My pair of Ocellaris, the standard orange one has bit me a couple times drawing blood but it's rare. The newer clown is 1/2 the size now but no orange on the body, just black with the white stripes. He will constantly try to bite me.

When I bought the new smaller one, he was a darker orange.
