filtration

Was just reading my new bible "Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies" and in the filtration section it recommends using a canister filter and fluidized bed filters for a reef tank. My tank is 30gal, if I add the canister and fluidized to the skimmer will that make it better. I am only just starting but know that water management is the most important so want to mak sure I can maintain a balance in the water before I start adding expensive things I might loose.

What year was that book published? Canister and fluidized bed filters are nitrate factories. Work well in freshwater. These days, the live rock does the job better

A great book on the technical aspects of the hobby:

The Reef Aquarium, Vol. 3: Science, Art, and Technology (Sprung, Delbeek)
http://www.amazon.com/Reef-Aquarium-.../dp/1883693144

It is a bit pricey but it is huge. The filtration chapter is 150 pages and covers skimmers, uv serilizers, refugiums, engs natural system, jaubert method, berlin method, deep sand bed, algal turf scrubbers and miracle mud.
