RO/DI units

I am looking for a unit as i have been just using culligan bottled water from my local store. It measures 001 on my TDS meter, but i think getting my on with RI would be better. Thoughts? I am on a budget and found this one on e-bay, any feedback or thoughts?

usually see units with more pre-filtering, got me wonder how much is needed to maintain the life of the membrane

what is usually done for pre-filtering?

see here for picture of Aquasafe (not sure what fishfood was meaning as there is only one Di cartridge) with 3 pre-filters, Kent with two.

But when looking for links see a bare bones units (no pre-filters) costing more

Save your cash, I had a unit just like that and had nothing but problems with leaks and the cartridges falling out of their holders and pulling out the line etc... The only reason i would buy another unit like that is if I had no other choice, but on the other hand RO/DI water from any source is better than tap water.

thanks to both of you. Urbanhellfire, what did you end up buying? If i buy Ro water from the water store and then ru nit through a DI like the one JL sells, would that essentially be the same thing? I guess the hard part would be to pressurize the water going to the DI unit as it seems to be set up for a tap. Guess i answered my own question.

What are good units that are reasonably priced? I am not adding to a sump, just into a 5 gal bucket once per week to do my water changes.

Thishttp://www.jlaquatics.com/product/ro...+-+50+GPD.html is the one that I have. Its 199, but has never given me any issues. I have nothing bad to say about it, so far.

that unit is only an RO unit is it not? Wouldnt that basically be the same as the RO water i am buying from the store now?

Hey I looked at this on the weekend. One of the guys at Big Al's told me to go to HD as they are cheaper there. He said these are usually overpriced because they are specifically made for aquarium use.

I have not checked HD.......anyone have one? Might be worth checking out.
