Seahorse help
 

I am looking to start a seahorse tank. i have a 14 gallon Biocube and was wondering if this will be suitable for a pair of seahorses. As well i was wondering what the best seahorses are for beginners?
Any advice and help would be appreciated

I think that it would be possible for you to put in dwarf seahorses. Probably a pair. I have seen a few biocubes converted for the dwarf seahorses hippocampus zosterae. Google this and take a look. Keeping this in mind, it might also be cheaper to just buy a tank for them, but its up to you. I would also suggest going to your Lfs and asking them what they think would be suitable.

First off, a 14g tank is too large for dwarfs unless you want to keep a lot of them, but is too small for keeping normal sized seahorses.
Dwarfs need grown out enriched baby brine shrimp and because most don't hunt down their food the feeding density has to be quite heavy for the dwarfs to snick food just passing them by when they are hitched.
A 5 gallon tank would be suitable for 3 or 4 pairs, even maybe 5 with excellent husbandry.
Normal sized seahorses need 39g minimum for a pair, with an extra 15g for each additional pair, primarily because it is hard, but not impossible, to keep water quality sufficient to maintain seahorse health in smaller tanks.
Some have had a pair in a 20g but it's a lot of work to keep it up so bacteria doesn't wipe out the seahorses.
