Seaworld

This is something I feel very strongly about. I do not believe that marine mammals should be kept in captivity. I made the unfortunate mistake of taking my children to Seaworld about 20 years ago and began to regret it when I learned how intelligent and social whales and dolphins are. And after watching Blackfish a few weeks ago I am even more motivated to do everything in my power to stop the practice of keeping these sentient beings in cement prisons.
Even if you think I am full of it, please take the time to watch Blackfish and make up your own mind.

Thanks

it's a good documentary. Amazed how much the trainers were unaware.

Not only the trainers, but also us the "general public" into being ignorant and thinking that marine mammals are no more intelligent than your average guppy and that it is ok to keep them in big enclosures, when in the wild their normal day may include a leisurely 200 mile swim on their way to wherever it is they need to go. Feeling really crappy as a member of the human race right now.

For some balance, here are Seaworld's responses to Blackfish. But as the producer of Blackfish said, Seaworld declined to be interviewed and state their defence during the production of the movie. In my opinion their defence is lacklustre.

wow realy opend my eyes im showing this to my whole family when they get home.

i am discuted to be a human number one and number two i will never pay to see a mareen mamle in captivity ever again .

but this movie is not contrary to popular belife trying to free whales as its main goal but to keep trainers safe thats even worse !

film is tough to watch but that does not mean you shouldn't.

lets all upoad this to our facebook pages guys lets get the word out !

It is definitely hard to watch, and I would discourage everyone from showing it to the young ones. My oldest granddaughter is 8 and I think it may be too much for her. BUT, my main reason for posting, is PLEASE do no take your kid to any establishments that keep marine mammals in captivity.
You know what really pi$$es me off, is the Vancouver SPCA, every year protests the Calgary Stampede because they think the treatment of livestock is inhumane (some of which I may agree with), however, they have no issue with the Vancouver Aquarium keeping beluga whales in big fish tanks! Not right.
