I just put a ball of chaeto in my sump! Here's to hoping.

I just set up a refugium growing chaeto a few weeks ago and I'm using one of the swirly cfl daylight bulbs. I'll have to disagree that they do nothing , as my chaeto has tripled in size in 3 weeks. However I do plan to get a better light soon , i was actually looking at that same light (Evergrow)

I run a LED bulb 54 watt with reds and blue and it grows it like crazy

Torally agree. I have 2 X 100W 6500K CFL grow bulbs on my 50 gallon fuge and it fills up the full 50 gallons in two weeks. Spectrum is a huge player.

That being said, just the economy spiral bulbs that you use in your home light fixtures usually wont work that well.

This is true. Grow bulbs and high wattage do make a big difference. Only issue with the CFL (from my understanding) is that you need to replace them every few months

They are using a 100W CFL...lol not a common house fixture light. They would typically be for outdoor flood lights or garages. Wattage is the key here.

And as for replacement times...mine are 4 years and counting at 8 hours a day and still doing fantastic. Once again though...mine are actual grow CFL bulbs. Not common house bulbs.

I currently use a Par20 6w LED from HD which is actually growing it surprisingly well. I have a par38 daylight over it previously and it grew very well, the bulb died recently so I just swapped in the par20 I had laying around. Given the current growth I don't feel the need to swap it just yet.
