MH lights

Can I use single ended MH reflectors without the lens?
Does the lamps outer glass block the UV?

Aquattro 11-13-2013 08:58 PM

if splashed the bulb's casing can shatter and still operate... really nuking the tank's inhabitants. The shield offers some more insurance but will also reduce PAR some.

Yes, that could be a problem, I'm going to try to get some tempered glass that is not UV rated.
Thanks for the input.

I ran mine for a couple years with regular glass, no issues at all.

Cool, they are 250W Lumenmax2 and won't be enclosed in a hood so shouldn't get too hot.
Thanks for that.

if it's not actively cooled, a 250 watt will get hot... lol...

I ran 3 x 400w in Lumenarcs in a hood. They were fine. Yes, they get hot, so don't touch them :)

I like to go with experience, even tempered glass can break.
Thanks Brad
