EMERGENCY NEED LIVE PHYTO (lower mainland)

Well it finally happened.. I crashed my phyto twice in a row and dont have a backup culture to restart off

If anyone has any live phyto they're willing to sell or trade i desperately need some or my rotifers will all die in the next few days D:

J & L Aquatics

J & L Aquatics regularly sell live phytoplankton. I thinks its $25 a bottle which is quite concentrated. Just make sure to check out the best before date.

I have no problems feeding my rotifers artificial greenwater made with spirulina powder.
I put the powder (occasionally flakes if out of powder) in a blender with a little water and blend it for two minutes MINIMUM. Then I add more water to it and after mixed, pour the blend through my rotifer mesh to capture any large particles. I store it in a pop bottle in the fridge.
While it can dirty up a container faster, it has the added advantage of providing a more nutritious rotifer to use as unless you are using a blend of 3 or more phyto species, the nutrition level will exceed that of the phyto you are using.
If you don't have spirulina right now, you can still do the same thing with any flake food to get you by. Using flake food just makes it harder to micronize the particles than when using powder.

Feeding rotifers

I have lots of rotifers growing and I feed them yeast everyday. I have lots of phytoplankton growing but I only feed the rotifers live phyto when I want to feed them to my baby clownfish. You can keep them fed with yeast! Try it. You don't need much. It will cloud your water. Don't feed them again until the water goes clear

hmm lots of interesting ideas here

funny thing is i set this all up for baby clowns but ive since given it up.. just didnt really want to shut it all down

im not overly concerned about the rotifers as i do have some more eggs i can use to restart. i just kinda of wanted to keep a live phyto culture going for some reason xD
