Skimmer pump

A couple yrs ago I picked up a skimmer from OA at a very good price ( Thanks Wendell) For various reasons I never set the skimmer up.At the time I asked if a Mak4 would work well, and was told it would be an exellant pump to run the skimmer.I'll be setting it up for my 90g tank, and the tank will be in the living room,so noise will be a factor. So now the question. What pump can I use that is pressure rated and compatible with a Mak4,and quiet enough to run in the living room? My first thought was Iwaki, but is there anything else quiet, but a bit less expencive?

I have 2 mak 4's. One ( the old one ) is louder and the new one is fairly quiet. Blue line makes a nice pump and is not too $$$ compared to the Iwaki. I also bought my skimmer from OA as well as the mak 4 and both are working very well. Anything with a cooling fan attached to it is going to make some noise. check out the Blue lines and Velocity pumps. FYI the Velocity will add some heat to your tank by a degree or 2 but they are very quiet. HTH

Thanks HockeyNut,I was looking at bluelines lastnite :) They sound like a nice pump. The problem with looking for a quiet pump is that every company claims theirs is the quietest, thanks for the info.

hockey_nut is indeed correct, the t4 is very quiet. it's only drawback is the heat it can add to your tank, in my case around 4 deg to a 90. check out the bluelines, quiet and lower power consumption.

The BlueLine NS1100 is a pretty nice pump. A tad quieter than my Mak 4, but overall, they are almost identical. The Mak 4 does push 100GPH more than the NS1100 though, but the NS uses 70W versus the 90-110W of the Mak 4.

I thinK I'll be going with the BlueLine NS1100,I was looking at it already and the second opinion is nice, thanks everyone. And I definatly like the 70w versus 100w for the Mak4.Quiet plus 30% less operating cost is a good selling piont :)
