small puffers?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there are saltwater puffers that stay under 3 or 4 inches in size? I tried to look it up on the internet but not much success. All I have found is brackish dwarf puffers.

Thanks.

5" is about as small as salt water puffer's come
Saddle Valentini Puffer is probably your best option for small SW puffer.

great thanks. I guess there goes my idea of having a small puffer in a 10 gal.

Valentini should not get more than 4 inches, the saddle puffer gets 5 inches or so...and the mimic saddle is about 4 as well.
but even these little guys are mean...

marcingo 12-11-2006 03:22 AM

i dont mind them being mean- since it would be the only fish in the tank. But do you think they would be ok in the 10? Probably not hey.

my little Valentini isn't mean at all...he keeps to himself and always has...don't know that I would want him in a 10g though...he does enjoy a good fast swim along the length of the tank!

wow should have seen my valentini take off after my little goby, killed a fire shrimp as well....little bugger. He is cute though, like 1.5 times the size of my thumb :)

Some of those brackish puffers can acclimate to full salt. I know the green spotted puffer is capable of full salt. 10 gal is a bit harsh for these little guys, they are quite active swimmers, and messy eaters. So you're prob. looking at a water change every other day.

I have also read that most puffers can acclimate. Do you know if the figure 8 can acclimate? I know that one figure 8 in a 10 gal should be fine due to their small size but Im not sure if they can actually acclimate. Although dont get me wrong once they outgrow I will obviously upgrade to a larger tank for them.

Also as for the Vanlentinis. Say I got a tiny one less than an inch. From what I have researched they grow very slowly, it should be ok in the 10 for a while correct?

Should be okay, but are you 100 Percent certain you can put him somewhere okay when he gets bigger, also they make a lot of waste and are messy eaters :)

I've seen all kinds of fish acclimated to salt water...if you have the time and resources....don't know if any can be but i've seen a few weird ones.
