Substrate question

Now that i'm in rebuilding mode I really don't want bare bottom tank I like the look of sand so I'm thinking of doing a very fine layer of sand and I mean fine maybe 1 bag for a 90G. Has anyone done this? good effects? bad effects? it is going to be a FOWLR gonna get out of the coral for a while.

Isn't that just a shallow sand bed? Will help make the tank look nicer and you won't have any toxic build up for sure.

I have the same thing. About 30 lbs of Caribsea Select in my 90 gallon tank. Works really well...gives me 1/2-1" over the bottom.

yeah thats all I want is like a 1/4-1/2 inch last tank I had 4 bags built up to much nasties in it

Problem with fine sand is its so easy to stir up if you have any pump near the sand. Friend did this, and we have an mp40 about 40cm from the sand floor and even at half power it blows alot of sand around.

Id go with course sand but thats me.

Um wow thats a long ways to stir up sand! Is it pointed down?

That's why I like to use a coarser sand like Caribsea Select or Special. The Tunze 6055 turned on full blast in my tank will blow it around a bit still, but it doesn't cloud the water at all.
