Is my Mimic Tang OK?

I thought my Tang was bitten my my lawnmower blenny on the belly the mark seems to be growing bigger. It is still active and picking on rocks and eating brine shrimps.

I’m not sure as it’s hard to tell. My thought process is if the tang is out, eating and swimming hopefully it’s recovering from whatever had affected it.

Thanks Dkokoman

Hope so. It's very active and eating. Fingers crossed .

Looks like bruising which I've usually found is either due to an internal infection (that is beyond repair at this point), or constipation. Brine Shrimp are bad for constipating fish, and shouldn't be the main part of any fish's diet. Brine Shrimp are not very nutritious unless they are gut loaded. The majority of a Tang's diet should consist of algae/seaweed.

Try to get some algae into the fish's diet - that will help if it is constipation. Put some seaweed in the tank on a clip or use a rubber band to attach it to piece of rock. You can even use your glass cleaning magnet to hold a small piece of seaweed. Don't go nuts, only add about a 1" square of seaweed, and remove it and throw it out at the end of the day if it's not eaten.

If the fish won't eat the seaweed, then at least feed him Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp which is gut loaded with spirulina algae. Even Mysis Shrimp is a better option than plain Brine Shrimp since Mysis is oily - especially the PE brand.

You can also buy algae-based pellet foods.

Hopefully this helps, and hopefully it's only constipation.

Thanks Myka for your info! Really helpful. He starts eating nori now, took him 2 weeks to realize that it is food. I have an urchin in the tank that will finish the nori when he is done :) He doesn't touch the algae pallets but I will keep trying. I will look into the brine with gut loaded with algae

Thanks!
