Island meet for frag/plant trade?

I am thinking that it would be a neet idea to have an island plant and coral frag trade. With tables and food and stuff like that.Somewhere where we can meet and buy/sell/trade stuff.Like a swap meet.

I think that it would be cool.A pipe dream but still a neat idea.

Chaloupa 12-21-2006 12:14 AM

Hey Fugu! I would be in for sure....but hopefully not right in Victoria...as we are in Campbell River....but then we, of course would travel to wherever..... if it means coral trading!

Borderjumper 12-21-2006 12:28 AM

I would be really interested! Sounds like an awesome idea.

Cameron 12-21-2006 12:37 AM

I'll put in a baseball of chaeto

Fugu 12-21-2006 01:29 AM

Wow I am supprized:)
Maby there is hope for this.I decided to include plants cuz, well, who has ever heard of a plant trade?

I think people should bring whatever stuff they want to sell,as long as it is aquaria related.tanks,LR,pumps,skimmers,C02,fish whatever.

My concern is power,we need to keep the fish and frags happy so there should be power going to the holding tanks.

I was thinking of Duncan. Its not a long drive away and they probably have a place where we could setup.Like a parking lot.

Scavenger 12-21-2006 02:31 AM

Had one of these at my house in Nanaimo a couple years ago. I thought it was fun. Not a huge turn out, but more food for all. (Even though I was far from perfect on the salmon :<) We even had reefers join usfrom Vancouver and Powell River to boot. So I'm sure another is about due.

Fugu 12-21-2006 05:10 AM

Damn that sounds cool.
But we would need a big house. But I gess all depends on the turn out.

Jaws 12-21-2006 02:29 PM

I'd be in if the timing was right.

I will offer again as well, if Nanaimo is a more suitable location for most.

Fugu 12-21-2006 11:33 PM

We should look into a good place to setup.

-Nanimo is kinda out there.
-Duncan is kinda out there for the other island reefers
-Comox (my home town) is way out there
-Victoria?????????????? kinda out there for the other reefers but could be a good vacation...
-Vancover hell no
-sooke is kinda hard to access

Any suggestions?

marie 12-21-2006 11:54 PM

Y'all could come to Powell River  . Montipora for all

lukep77 12-22-2006 08:55 AM

If reefers from other parts of the country are invited I would be happy to join, we drive out every summer, and are heading out for New Years this year also.

Its funny how you guys mention Duncan, we stay there every time we come out. I never thought of it as a huge reef town.

If my vote counts Nanimo, Victoria or Duncan are all good for me.
Especialy Duncan.

Fugu 12-22-2006 07:02 PM

They have one of the best if not THE best LFS on the island.I have never been there but I want to go:mrgreen:.the LFS I mean,I went to the dairyqueen once *plug plug*
Yes you are welcome to join, check it out.Bring whatever you want to bring.

sperkins 12-22-2006 10:09 PM

We'd be in if it's on a weekend. If folks want to consider Sooke I might even be convinced to open up my house yard for it....:)

Fugu 12-22-2006 10:16 PM

Well thats another + for sooke.Aquarists with big yards:lol: but I HATE driving to sooke, unless I have drift tires....

Fugu 12-25-2006 09:37 PM

Anyone have an idea for a date?I was thinking of early summer.

ldzielak 01-03-2007 11:47 PM

My vote is for Nanaimo, more central for us Northern Reefers :)
Early summer is a long way away, but I'm in if work and family permit. May tanks are getting back to normal so it is time to re-stock what I have lost over past 2 years.

Lee

marie 01-04-2007 12:01 AM

Ok seeing as how no one jumped on my idea  my vote is for nanaimo as well, I can visit my daughter at the same time.

Chaloupa 01-04-2007 12:31 AM

I'm with Lee and Marie on this - Nanaimo would work the best for us.........hey Lee need a really big rabbit fish that eats algae really REALLY well (and the odd coral?!) ha ha:lol:

sperkins 01-04-2007 07:05 PM

Nanaimo

So I think I saw someone offer their place if it's in Nanaimo or was I imagining things? Early summer is a long way off what do folks thing of the April-June time frame? For me it would have to be a weekend and if it was depending on timeing I could probably get down early and do what I can to to assist with setup (I have a really bad back so I'm limited on on the heavy manual labour). I have no idea what kind of crowd normally shows for these but I could bring down a BBQ as well as folding table and chairs.

Another option would be to look at renting a hall for this I know there's several in the Nanaimo area that are really inexpensive (my cousin recently got married there). While we still have to do setup and cleanup it's not one poor person's home that gets stuck with the majority of the work.

Anyhow I'm in whenever and where-ever as long as I can swing the logistics on the date picked. Let me know if I can assist.

Chairs and BBQ's sound great. I had to do the salmon in the oven last time due to BBQ space. I'm sure we can find enough backs to do the grunt labor, and a weekend is pretty much a sure thing as it works best for the majority, not to mention that's all that would work for me!! Fair weather in June'ish would let us use the yard for the BBQ/kickback and BS session. (BS=Beer Swaling. GRIN!)

Setup and cleanup weren't really a problem last time. The house and yard are big enough for the numbers of reefers I'd expect. I may not be rich, but I'm not "one poor person!" hmmm.... OK maybe a little bit.

Sharon

OK you can assist ( LOL!!) if the crowd desides Nanaimo and my place.

Fugu 01-04-2007 11:47 PM

Nanimo sounds great, not very far away.We should see if IPZ wants to join us or maby safari.Any cool cars would be great too:smile:
It would definatly be on the weekend,I just thought earl summer because the weather will be more predictable (sun or rain.)

We should put this thread on BC aquaria. If anyone there is not on here or if they want to take a ferrry ride.

ldzielak 01-04-2007 11:54 PM

Scavenger has a nice place, he has my vote. Missed the last meet at his place...

Lee

fishmaster 04-08-2007 05:53 PM

Did you guys set a date for this???? Did I already miss it? The thread just kind of ended with no dates set. If it's still going on, I'm in for sure. I don't mind helping out with food ect...
Shaun.

marie 04-08-2007 05:58 PM

I'm pretty sure you haven't missed it, if you have so have I. I assume it is going to be in the summer

Chaloupa 04-09-2007 06:33 AM

I haven't heard of any get togethers.....I hope we do have one...I may have a couple of more common things to trade...

PoonTang 04-10-2007 04:08 AM

I'm in too, someone just come up with a time and place.

Scavenger 04-10-2007 04:26 AM

My offer of host is still open. I thought we had a tentative June date. I was just waiting to get a little closer so people would have a better idea of their schedules. Should we go ahead and formalize this thing-a-ma-jig?? If so, how would we like to pick the date. Offer a poll on every weekend day??? Suggestions??? I'm easier than a......... err never mind the last.

Chaloupa 04-10-2007 05:02 AM

Yah, lets get a date figured...then I have to frag a few things...instead of putting it off....

PoonTang 04-10-2007 05:46 AM

Just pick any weekend in June that works for you, if your'e the host, you decide. If you try to do a day that works for everyone else it will never work. Always going ot be someone with a prior commitment. I think YOU should set a date ASAP so we all have time to do frags and arrange other plans around this.

ldzielak 04-10-2007 05:49 AM

Sundays work best for me.

fishmaster 04-10-2007 05:57 AM

Scavenger, Hopefully not the 16th & 17th:wink: ....but set the dates that work best for you.

marie 04-10-2007 02:17 PM

Sundays work best for me too

Scavenger 04-16-2007 01:20 AM

Sorry for the delay in setting date. Barring a majority of reefers not available, I'm setting the date for June 17th. I'm sure this might not work for some, but I have a far more active June than I thought. (Don't tell the wife, but I almost didn't factor in our anniversary!!!) I hope this works for all, and if you wish to contribute food or other wise, please pm me.

Cheers, and hope to see you soon,
Ken
