Long shot but.....

My SCWD broke down sometime this week, but I only noticed today. It has stopped switching due to what appears to be a broken gear inside. Does anyone around the Koots have one by chance that they aren't using that they would like to sell to me? I'm not sure if it is still under warranty from J&L, it's only been about 6-8 months since I bought it.

Thanks,

Danny

I would give J&L a call and see if it would be under warranty and if it is send it for for replacement and see if you can find one you can borrow or some thing that will tide you over.

I'd love to but some how I don't think it comes with more than a 90 day warranty. We'll see I guess. As far a sending it in to them, well, that will be tricky seeing as how my return line relies on it being in place to atually return water. I suppose if J&L really wants it, I can rig something up until the replacement comes.

I wonder if anyone else has had problems with these units? To the best of my knowledge they are supposed to be pretty bullet proof, which is why I bought one.

I am not all that close but I do have 2 I am not using, I will give you a good deal if you want, shipping should only take a couple days.

SCWDs are notorious for failing and becoming bothing but an overpriced T fitting. They also cut down on flow quite a bit.

If you can go with an OM next time - they're much more reliable.

lol funny story: I've own both a SCWD and a OM SS Compact for about 3 years each. I've never had a problem with the SCWD and I've only cleaned it once where as I had to pay +$100 to replace the noisy motor on my OM after two years when it crapped out. I still prefer the OM unit (and even bought a 4-Way recently) but my experience seems to contradict everything else that I've heard about these devices. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones. That or my day is coming soon.

Edit: My SCWD just crapped out today after at least 3 problem free years. I think thats a record!
