Acro Crabs

Do any retailers sell these or are they just "bonuses" when you buy a coral?

BlueTang<3 12-30-2012 10:38 PM

I have ordered them before through marina aquaria

JetJumper 12-30-2012 10:39 PM

usually a bonus for me.. however if a retailer notices it.. I have seen them bill more for them sometimes!

I've always received mine as "bonuses" but when I was in big als Calgary I saw a BUNCH they had in from a big sps shipment and just out of curiosity I asked if they could sell them separate from the colony and they said yes for like 10-15$. I didnt end up getting one even though I wish I did now. But I guess he thought he could get it out somehow

I've only ever seen them as bonuses. I always leave them at the LFS though because I have wrasses in my reef and the Acro Crabs wouldn't stand a chance! I would love to have a few of the cute little buggers though!

ya i've never seen them sold here in calgary. I'd imagine it would be difficult to keep and sell them in a store as they have a symbiotic relationship with stony corals. I'm not so sure how well they would do in a tank without stony corals?

I was doing some research on a couple different sites. If they're moved out of their host corals, they die quickly.

BlueTang<3 12-31-2012 12:22 PM

I don't know about them dying if removed from host corals I sold a bunch of my corals when I moved and when I broke one colony to get it out the little guy scurried away went on to live for a long time in the tank. I think more of the problem is they are just so vulnerable.

I know we can't order from live aquaria bit this is where we got the idea from a few years ago. They defiantly were not cheap to order tho.

I've removed a couple before while treating with interceptor, added them to a different tank for holding and they didn't last 2 days without acros to live in.
